becoming my body

Bishop Black

Bishop Black transforms burlesque into a medium for the self-determination of queer POCs. His own body, objectified in voyeurism and racism, the object of multiple usurpations now becomes the material for his own artistic expression, the medium of self-assertion. The British performance artist primarily expresses himself by using his own body as a linguistic and politicized tool to shape sexuality and gender.

Artists

Bishop Black is a British artist who has been performing for seven years, initially in the medium of performance art, before shifting to drag and later burlesque. His main expression comes from the use of the body as language and as a politicized tool through sexuality and gender. Having worked the last few years within film, he now works mostly on stage creating unique but connected performances that utilize mythology, occultism, queerness and dance.
